ABOUT US

Rock It! represents teenagers from Bolton aged between 11 and 21 with a passion for music, the arts and the creative and music industries. We are open to young people of any ability interested in new music. We specialise in the creation of original new music, developing young musicians and composers, and delivering Arts Awards accreditations through music industry training and a comprehensive volunteer programme.

The group provides positive activities and produces trainee music leaders and peer mentors with the skills, knowledge and confidence to move into the creative and music industries, whether going for employment, training or educational opportunities. We are an inclusive project and support all young people regardless of the difficulties they may face. We are proud to ensure all teenagers are given an equal platform to develop their skills and aspire to achieve.

THE PROJECT

The Rock It! project is a 12-month rolling programme of work taking place from May to March. We take on young people aged 11-18 years with a passion for new music, whether beginners or experienced musicians. We also run a comprehensive volunteer programme for ex-participants aged up to 21, allowing them to take lead roles within the project.

Rock It! is comprised of three strands of work:

Rock School

New participants are placed into groups and provided with professional tutoring in performance, music composition and working together as a band. Participants take part in 3 indoor performances over the year, and are able to take advantage of music training workshops and Arts Awards sessions alongside their rehearsals. Bands perform at our annual outdoor festival in the summer and are provided with a professional recording session at the end of the project

Volunteer Programme

Volunteers are usually ex-participants who wish to continue learning about music leading and the music industry. We provide them with music industry training workshops and practical experience in music tutoring and peer mentoring. Our volunteers are able to progress to become trainee music leaders and members of the management board.

Events and Arts Award programme

Arts Awards are open to all new participants and volunteers and we can deliver Bronze and Silver awards in-house. This work includes taking part in training, visiting events, and in-depth exploration of music and the arts. Alongside this, participants and volunteers can get involved in organising our performance events, including our outdoor summer festival. This includes workshops on health and safety, risk awareness, sound engineering and events management, and allows young people to take the lead at our events whether sound engineering, compering or stage management.
